What is the SUP?
Standup paddleboarding (SUP) is a water sport born from surfing with modern roots in Hawaii. Standup paddle boarders stand on boards floating on the water and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water.
What materials are standup paddleboards made of?
Most solid paddleboards are made of fiberglass and epoxy resin layers over hollow wood or foam cores. Some inexpensive SUPs are made of foam. Some high-end paddle boards are made of carbon fiber over foam cores.

How do I choose a SUP paddle?
Choose a paddle length for your type of paddling. For touring, fishing, or fitness paddling, look for a paddle about 10″–12″ longer than you are tall. A slightly shorter paddle works best for river running or surfing — approximately 8″ longer than your height.
Why are Carbon Fiber SUP paddles so expensive?
Good inflatable paddle boards are expensive because they are built using better materials, construction methods, and advanced technology. Cheap inflatables are inexpensive because they cut corners.
What length SUP Paddle do I need?
The general convention for determining the correct paddle size is to take the rider’s height and add 9-10 inches. Ideally, if you’re 5’11”, you should get a paddle about 80-81 inches, or 6 feet 8 or 9 inches. This is the recommendation for the average user.
